This Sociology Course will ask students to investigate the inner workings of Society. Students will attempt to determine the whys and hows of the events in the world around us. Through the application of Sociology’s 5 Key Concepts we will discuss and examine the major events in America from 1945 to the present.

Course Objectives:

  • Students will understand and be able to apply the 5 Key Concepts of Sociology to a given event or time period.
  • Students will gain a better perspective regarding their role in society.
  • Students will have an understanding of the way in which communities function as well as why they may experience dysfunction.

Instructional Method:

Due to the nature and topic of this course (Society and People) students will be expected to interact and collaborate regularly with peers in a variety of group projects and discussions/debates. I will expect a high level of maturity both in the way students interact as well as their approach to the topics some of which may be controversial. There will also be lecture and note taking that is necessary to cover certain aspects of the course.
