Teaching Model: Reader's Workshop
The workshop model includes:

a focused mini-lesson with teacher modeling and active student engagement,
-
independent reading time for students (often includes time for individual and group conferences with teacher),
-
partner conferring/sharing,
-
whole group, individual student, and teacher sharing,
-
read-aloud
- word work activities to improve word recognition and decoding skills
It is important that your child read every day. He/she needs to use his/her Reading Log to keep track of this reading. Our goal begins at 20 minutes and increases in small increments to reach our goal of 40 minutes of sustained reading by the end of 3rd grade. Your child's reading pouch should come home each night with books, reading log, and reader's notebook.
