School Readiness Program

School Readiness Grant Opportunity

Last posted by Jeffrey Ferreira

LOCAL REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL

The Windsor Locks Public Schools and its School Readiness Council have opened up a local RFP to identify new or continuing eligible local early care and education providers, which shall provide school readiness and child day care services to eligible children and their families.

In its review of these applications, the School Readiness Council must ensure that any proposals address all the statutory requirements specifying how the program will meet these requirements and only submit those proposals that are complete and in compliance with such requirements.

The Office of Early Childhood has also established a program, within available appropriations, to provide on a competitive basis supplement quality enhancement grants to providers of child day care services or providers of school readiness programs pursuant to C.G.S. Sections 10-16p and 10-16u to enhance the quality of early childhood education programs. Child day care providers, school readiness programs in priority school districts, and competitive school readiness municipalities may apply for a quality enhancement grant. These applicants must use their local School Readiness Council to review and recommend projects for funding.

The purpose of the Quality Enhancement funding is to assist early care and education programs in addressing quality standards and/or expand comprehensive services for children and families.

If you are interested in applying for funds to increase the number of children you serve in your school readiness program, please contact Jeffrey Ferreira, Principal, North Street School, 325 North Street, Windsor Locks, CT 06096 for additional information regarding allotted funds, application process and CT SDE guidelines for proposals. Deadline for the grant application is May 1, 2015.

Looking In Theatre -- Parent Letter

March 25, 2015

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are delighted to take this opportunity to let you know that Looking In Theater will be performing at both the Middle and High Schools on Monday March 30, 2015.

Looking In Theatre is a group comprised of teenagers from the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, who present dramatic scenes dealing with important issues such as drugs, alcohol, depression, suicide, mean behavior etc. and how these issues affect adolescents.  A typical presentation involves a series of dramatic scenes followed by a moment of audience participation where students interact with the characters to discuss the issues portrayed.  The aim of the program is to highlight the topics so that audience members may talk about these issues openly and to clarify their own personal values so that they can make more informed decisions regarding their own lives.  This group of young people has travelled extensively throughout the state of Connecticut and we are pleased that they are able to come to our district.

While this is a very worthwhile and important performance, we know that for some, it may cause some anxiety.  Students will have the opportunity to process the information discussed in smaller groups through our Advisory shortly after the performance and we will have counselors available for students who need it as well.

We hope that you will join with us as we welcome them to our district.  Please do not hesitate to call the high school if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Rotary Club Recognizes Kate Cobb

March 12, 2015

WLHS Senior Kate Cobb was recognized this morning as the Rotary Club WLHS March "Student of the Month."  (The Windsor/Windsor Locks/East Granby Rotary Club also recognized one student from Windsor High School and from East Granby High School as their respective Rotary Club "Students of the Month.")  Kristen Krupa nominated Kate while multiple other WLHS teachers supported Kate's nomination.  Kristen spoke eloquently about Kate's personality and involvement in extracurricular activities. Kate graciously gave her acceptance speech and told the Rotarians about her future plans for college (Keene State College or Fitchburg State University) and beyond (video production/media).  Kate's parents also attended.
