Mrs. Mangeri
Hello. My name is Elsie Amrich Mangeri and I am an ELL tutor currently having the privilege to work with students at North Street Elementary School. I have been an ELL tutor since 1999.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, with a minor in Reading, from Central Connecticut State College, (now part of the State University system within Connecticut), in New Britain, Connecticut.
My husband, Michael Mangeri, works as an electronic technician for Hamilton Sundstrand, where he has been involved in the repair work of parts within our American Space Shuttle Program. He has had the privilege to witness space shuttle launches on more than one occasion. We have two children, John and Lauren. John is currently a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona, where he is studying space physics. Lauren is currently a student at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, studying journalism and mass communications.
I have always been interested in the multi-cultural field. As a child, I began a collection of dolls from countries other than the United States. I am still collecting them. I enjoy learning about different cultures and especially about different foods and clothing from countries other than the United States. I like to keep current information about different holidays and celebrations in other countries. If your child or you have interesting facts, information or anything with regard to your native country that you might like to share either with myself or with the other ELL students, please feel free to contact me at either North Street School or by e-mail: emangeri@wlps.org
For the 2010 – 2011 school year, I am servicing ELL students in both a push-in/pull-out program. In the pull-out model, I take the children out of their regular classroom and work with them in the ELL room. For push-in, I go into the regular classroom and tutor the children on regular classroom academics. In addition, I have become involved in the Read Naturally program, as well as familiarizing myself with the Reading Recovery program. Understanding how both of these programs work is important to me and especially important as I work with the ELL students.
Recently, I submitted an application for North Street School to be a part of a future space mission. We were selected! Students and staff at North Street School will sign a poster, and it will then be digitally captured and sent with a future space mission (into space!) More details will follow in the spring of 2011.
In 2006, I was recognized at a Board of Education meeting for having the top school entry in an August 2006 competition which required an actual lesson plan used in one of my classes. If you would like to read more about the competition and my lesson plan, please go to the following link:
