AMERICAN LITERATURE

This year in American Literature, we will be working individually and in large groups to explore the literature that has defined us since the birth of our nation. Beginning with an overview of the literary time periods, students will have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of genres and authors as we seek to answer the question, "What is an American?"

We are currently working on building our literary analysis skills! We will be looking at cartoons, songs, short stories, etc. to figure out the importance and figurative interpretations of each text. We will also be incorporating historical information of the literary time periods and biographical information of the authors to help us support our arguments.

We are currently exploring themes and author choices in The Crucible. Students are reading and watching excerpts from this dramatic play as we elevate our analytical thinking skills and evaluate how American Dramas reflect our culture. We will decide as a group, "Are we susceptible to a modern day witch hunt?"
