We are all very busy in the art room this year!
Many students in grades 3-5 are working on greater understanding of the "elements and principles of art". Please refer to the listing on the left with the same title to learn more about these.
All classes will be painting in art. Please provide a smock and students should not wear their nice clothes on messy art days.
Grade 3
Third grade students have been working very hard on animal drawing skills. Students are taught to start their drawings from basic shapes and then add details and a habitat from there. Third grade drawing skills have really grown in this unit! They are currently working on their final drawing which will be used for their Square 1 Art project. They will also color their picture. Ask your child about their specific project in their class.
Grade 4
Still life art is the theme for grade four students. They are drawing any "still life" object they want for their picture. They are incorporating 3D drawing skills from our previous unit such as curving edges on certain forms, overlapping parts and adding shadows and shading. The colored still life pictures will also be for their Square 1 Art projects this year.
Grade 5
In grade 5, students are drawing landscapes which will be for their Square 1 Art. They have learned techniques to give the illusion of space and depth in their art. These are colored with colored pencils and they may have a chance to create a landscape with watercolor paint.
As always, ask your child about what they are doing in class!
And encourage lots of drawing and other art at home and elsewhere.
