Unit Breakdown
· 4 Units = Each Unit last entire quarter
· Each Unit Includes
o STUDY OF FOUR SUBTOPICS
§ Geography
§ Culture
§ Historical Period 1 or Brief History of
§ Historical Period 2
o POST ASSESSMENTS (Quizzes)
§ Quizzes will be based on
· Content (from subtopics of study)
· Map Skills (identifying countries, states, capitals, etc)
· Vocabulary (from subtopics of study)
o DAW (Direct Assessment of Writing)
§ These writing prompts will occur in the end of each unit, and in the beginning of some as well.
§ The prompts will be both expository writing pieces and argumentative writing.
§ The prompts will be based on content we are studying.
§ Students will peer edit their writing with classmates, as well as meet with me in writers conferences to evaluate their writing.
o RFI (Reading For Information)
§ These reading prompts will assess the students on reading for information.
o CURRENT EVENTS
§ Student will have to complete ONE current event report each Unit.
§ Articles must pertain to the current unit we are studying
§ Students will be assigned a specific due date (they will be different for each student)
o PROJECT
§ Although there will be group work, and smaller projects throughout the unit there will be one major research project per quarter.
§ These projects will be completed individually and sometimes with partners.
§ All information for projects will be send home approximately a week before we begin work on project.
§ Most work on project will be completed in school.
o SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT (Unit Exam)
§ 1 per quarter
§ Exam will be based on content, map skills, vocab, and writing/reading strategies learned from the entire unit.
§ All content will be online (in form of PowerPoints)
§ Students will receive a study guide for ALL UNIT EXAMS
§ I will hold a after or before school review before Unit Exams
