How do you study for a math quiz or test??
 

Here are some helpful tips to help you study:
 

1) Create an appropriate study environment

  • Choose a spot where you can concentrate with minimal interruptions
  • Give yourself 30 minutes to study
  • Give yourself a treat at the end of the study session
     

2) Develop a calm attitude

  • Try not to become frustrated with a particular problem
  • Take a break from a difficult problem, but return to it later
     

3) Develop effective memorization methods

  • Flash cards may be helpful
  • Have a friend or family member quiz you
     

4) Focus on the areas that need the most attention

  • Copy problems from class or an assignment onto a separate paper, solve them, and then check your answer with the answer given in class
  • Repeat the above step!
  • Don't avoid the most difficult of problems since you can expect them on the assessment
     

5) Work with others

  • Call a classmate if you are stuck
  • Set up a time to work with a study buddy at home, school, or the library
  • When working with someone, don't get distracted...Stay on task
     

6) Seek out the teacher for help

  • Mrs. Reed is available after school every day except for Tuesdays
  • Check out the web sites on the "Pre-Algebra" and "Algebra" pages for extra practice

     
OVERALL:
Take studying seriously. Don't dread it or you'll stop. Focus on how important it is to you that you learn the material.
