Film I- Reading Literature through Film (154B)

*Grade 12, and Grade 11 with teacher recommendation

Students in this course will explore the connection between film and literary texts; including poetry, short stories, plays, and novels. This course aligns with our grade 12 reading standards.   Students will be expected to understand motifs, symbols, metaphors, allusions, plot, theme, and other literary elements as they relate to both film and literature and will demonstrate their understanding through rigorous student-led discussions. Students will also explore the impact of author and director choices on intended audiences. Students will also learn the value of reflection as they consistently work to assess themselves and others in order to set new goals for the future.

This course aligns with our grade 12 writing standards.   Students will be examining motifs, symbols, metaphors, allusions, plot, theme, and other literary elements as they relate to both film and literature and will convey their understanding through written analysis. Students will also explore the impact of author and director choices on intended audiences. Students will also learn the value of reflection as they consistently work to assess themselves and others in order to set new goals for the future.
