National Collegiate Athletic Association was established in 1906 and serves as the athletics governing body for more than 1,300 colleges, universities, conferences and organizations  (http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/CBSA.pdf)  The NCAA Clearinghouse certifies the academic and amateur credentials of all college-bound student-athletes who wish to compete in NCAA Division I or II athletics. High School Athletes beginning in their freshmen year should pay particular attention to the NCAA requirements to help them achieve eligibility to participate in Division I or II collegiate sports upon the completion of their four year high school career.  The web address for the NCAA Clearinghouse Eligibility Center is here. Students can enter the site by clicking the "Blue Register Arrow" section of the website.  
Courses
Division I and Division II schools will require students to complete 16 required core courses Division I schools will require 10 core courses to be completed prior to the student's 7th semester in school.See charts below.

Test Scores

A sliding scale is used for Division I schools to match SAT/ACT scores and the student's GPA.  This sliding scale can be found by going to the eligibility website.

Division II schools require a minimum of 820 on the SATs or a 68 sum score on the ACTs.

The NCAA Eligibility Center requires that student athletes submit their test scores when registering.  Students must enter a code of 9999 to make sure scores are reported directly and accurately from College Board or ACT.

Grade Point Average
Student athletes need to make sure that they are familiar with their high school’s List of NCAA Courses on the NCAA Eligibility Center's website (www.eligibilitycenter.org). 
  • Division I students enrolling full time before August 1, 2016, should use Sliding Scale A to determine eligibility to receive athletics aid, practice and competition during the first year. 
  • Division I GPA required to receive athletics aid and practice on or after August 1, 2016, is 2.000-2.299 (corresponding test-score requirements are listed on Sliding Scale B on Page No.2of this sheet).
  • Division I GPA required to be eligible for competition on or after August 1, 2016, is 2.300 (corresponding test-score requirements are listed on Sliding Scale B on Page No. 2 of this sheet).
  • The Division II core GPA requirement is a minimum of 2.000.
  • Remember, the NCAA GPA is calculated using NCAA core courses only.

        DIVISION I
    16 Core Courses
    4years of English.
    3years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher).
    2years of natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high school).
    1year of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science.
    2years of social science.
    4years of additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or comparative religion/philosophy)

        DIVISION II
    16 Core Courses
    3years of English.
    2years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher).
