AP Literature / ECE:
We are just ending Unit 4 : Prose analysis with a heavy focus on Zora Neal Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God. We will analyze this text to further prepare for the AP test in May as well as to write our third UConn ECE paper.

Current Units:
We are currently starting our study of the epic simile through Homer's Odyssey. Students will be tracing the reckless behavior of mankind that ultimately destroys us. The unit will end with a culminating argument essay that defends a self-selected thesis.
Past units:
We studied Unit 4: Exploring Author's Rhetoric. Throughout this unit, students will explore many examples of memoir, focusing heavily on how the author's choice of diction create atmosphere and enhance the meaning of the piece (author's purpose).

Past Units: researching the Cambodian Genocide and the Khmer Rouge in preparation for Linda Crew's Children of the River, where we will examine the development of the protagonist's journey through history, poetry and historical fiction.
