Course Overview
This course provides students with opportunities to communicate, reason, make connections and problem solve mathematically. Building upon concepts, skills and strategies learned in Algebra 1 about linear and quadratic relationships, Algebra 2 extends student understanding into more complex topics. Emphasis will be placed on systems of equations and inequalities, exponential and logarithmic functions, square root and cube root functions, higher order polynomials and equations, and rational equations to model real-life situations and solve real-world applications. Conic sections (parabolas, circles, ellipses and hyperbolas), trigonometric functions, sequences and series, and probability will be introduced. A variety of instructional strategies, including modeled instruction, individual drill, partner and small-group discussion, cooperative learning, student presentations, and computer and calculator technology will be employed. Departmentally standardized mid-term exams, final exams, and practice CAPT assessments will be administered.
