School Psychologists and Social Workers help children succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally by creating supportive learning environments.

All children face problems from time to time, such as: lacking in self-control; being concerned about their friendships and how they "fit in;" worrying about family matters such as divorce or separations; and coping with everyday stressors.  Our primary goal is to help children, parents, and teachers understand and resolve such concerns.

Some of the ways we help the students at South are:

  • Providing individual and group counseling. Topics include but are not limited to the following: anger management, problem-solving, self-regulation, friendship, self-esteem, anxiety, and grief/loss.
  • Facilitating peer mediation and building friendships through "lunch bunches."
  • Assessing academic and social/emotional/behavioral functioning to help determine students' learning strengths and needs.
  • Consulting with teachers and staff to implement interventions that increase student success.
  • Participating on school-teams (such as the Scientifically Research-Based Intervention (SRBI) team, 504 team and the Planning and Placement Team (PPT)).
  • Providing support to families of Windsor Locks.

We believe that communication between home and school is vital to each child's success.  Please feel free to contact us!

If you are looking for assistance to help with food, clothes, or housing, please let us know or consider contacting Windsor Locks Social Services: http://www.windsorlocksct.org under the department tab.

Another good resource is Windsor Locks Youth Service Bureau. The goal of the Bureau is to promote positive growth of youth and their families in Windsor Locks through developing, coordinating, and providing services and programs in the areas of prevention, education, intervention, and recreation.

Success!
