One of my favorite stories is about the man who walks along the beach picking up stranded starfish and flinging them back out into the ocean. When someone asks him how he can possibly make a difference when there are so many miles of beach and millions of starfish, he holds up the one in his hand and answers, “It makes a difference to this one,” then throws the starfish to safety in the sea. That starfish thrower reminds me of great teachers who never give up and continue to work toward excellence in learning for all students in spite of the challenges facing education today. This is the philosophy that we promote in Windsor Locks.
The Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment in Windsor Locks is committed to providing our students with a dynamic and caring environment where students are encouraged to take risks, challenged to expand their thinking, and celebrated for their accomplishments. A second, and no less important goal, is to develop the kind of educator who is diligent, caring, persistent, one who loves learning and who enjoys teaching others how to learn.
It is our intent that this website will inform you of the philosophies and goals of the Windsor Locks Public Schools in the area of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
