Welcome to the Windsor Locks Public Schools District Website!
As Chair of the Board of Education I write on behalf of all the members of the Board; Margaret Byrne, Secretary, Scott Storms, Andy Kulas and Jeff Krug – to reflect on the past school year and look to the future.
The year began with Dr. Lanza as our interim Superintendent. Dr. Lanza was knowledgeable about our district, having been interim in the past. He created an excellent environment for all during the recruitment and selection of a new Superintendent. Mr. Wayne Sweeney was selected unanimously over all other candidates. He came with excellent experience as a former Superintendent and Consultant who received $15M for each of three years to study High Performing Schools in the 21st Century.
Since his employment in January, Mr. Sweeney has demonstrated strong leadership in moving the district to a higher level of goal setting for teaching and learning. During his first few months, Mr. Sweeney assessed the strengths and opportunities for advancement of the district. He engaged all stakeholders, the Board, our competent and dedicated Administrators, staff, students and citizens to participate in the development of a Long Range Plan for the district. A new mission, beliefs and goals were formulated and will be presented for approval prior to the 2011-12 school year. Mr. Sweeney’s philosophy is concentrated on learning and teaching and it is synergistic. He holds all stakeholders accountable for compliance and performance in advancing our district to excel.
We have all been, and will continue to be, affected profoundly by the current, unpredicted global economic situation. An uncertain and volatile economic environment was present again this spring as we prepared and presented our budget to the Board of Finance and the citizens of Windsor Locks. The collaborative relationships that have been established with staff and townspeople assisted with the budget being approved with a 1.48% increase yet focusing on student achievement and the resources required to accomplish current requirements for students of the 21st century.
Members of the Board of Education are committed to communicate effectively with all members of the Windsor Locks community. Our intention is to showcase the accomplishments of our students and staff, and to seek involvement and feedback from parents and citizens in order to improve our school programs and services.
We look forward to another exciting year for our students, staff, and parents and a continued collaboration with town officials. We welcome comments and concerns at any time and we commit to represent you, the residents of Windsor Locks.
